"The Present Situation: Handling Holiday Stress (Without Egg Nog Abuse)"
by Dave Caperton

The “most wonderful time of the year” is also the most stressful because it comes with overspending, overeating, crowds and traffic jams and family get-togethers with your uncle who won’t stop talking politics to your vegan and gluten-free sister-in-law who can’t eat anything in your house. Mix in high expectations and you have the perfect recipe for stress (vegan and gluten-free, though). You might not be able to change the world and people around you, but it is possible to make little choices that include amusement over anger and gratitude and over complaint. The result is a perception shift and—because perception is reality—those little choices can change everything and bring some joy to the world for yourself.

Bio

Dave Caperton works with organizations that want to create an intentionally joyful culture so that they can keep their best people and engage and empower them to bring their best to all they do. “Most people,” he says, “don’t realize the power they have to make a real difference in and out of work.” In his keynotes and workshops he employs a simple formula of story, laughter and action to engage his audiences and empower them to create and lead positive change where they are and with what they already have so that they can create a better present and future for themselves and their teams. That’s the simple but effective approach Dave has used for over 20 years with the over 800 organizations and associations he has worked with across the US and beyond. By focusing on personal actions, Dave presents granular and sustainable choices that empower each person to have a net-positive impact on their work cultures, their perceptions, their connections to others and their own sense of balance.

Dave has been an award-winning educator, an entrepreneur and business-owner, a performance consultant, as well as a stand-up comedian and a comedy writer. Dave’s unique journey has allowed him to effectively fuse entertaining stories, in-depth research and proven learning strategies so that his programs inspire laughter, demolish barriers between groups and open pathways to build trust and transition from transaction-based to relationship-driven success. His entertaining conversations about joy and connection provide a new vocabulary and concrete actions to solve people problems, and to build a bridge between where you are now and where you want to be.

Dave is the author of Happiness Is a Funny Thing, a book he describes not as a how-to but a why-to book for realizing greater happiness, health, and joyful laughter both at work and beyond.

Dave is a professional member of the National Speakers Association for which he heads up the LaughNSA Community Group and serves on the faculty of LaughLab 2020. He also serves on the board of two charitable foundations: The New Life Foundation which addresses quality-of-life needs for individuals with spinal cord injuries and The American Pie Party Foundation which uses the power of humor to raise funds for cancer research.
